What should this role pay?
Your role, your location, your org's budget. We'll show you what comparable nonprofits pay — from IRS Form 990 filings.
About this tool
The DoubleNine Salary Estimator uses real compensation data from IRS Form 990 filings to help nonprofit professionals understand their market value. Unlike salary surveys that rely on self-reported data, our numbers come directly from mandatory tax filings — covering over 1 million nonprofit organizations.
How it works
We analyze compensation data reported on IRS Form 990 public filings. Total compensation includes base pay, bonus, deferred compensation, and nontaxable benefits. Data is sourced from the GivingTuesday 990 Data Lake, which processes electronic filings from the IRS.
Frequently asked
Is this really free?
Yes. The salary estimator is completely free with no limits. If you need a downloadable PDF report for board meetings, those are available for $19.
How accurate is this data?
Very. Unlike salary surveys, our data comes from mandatory IRS filings. The main limitation is timing — due to filing deadlines, the most recent complete data is typically 1–2 years old.
What positions are included?
We cover 10 key nonprofit leadership positions including Executive Director / CEO, CFO, COO, CDO, and more.
Why is my combination showing no data?
Some filter combinations produce very small sample sizes. Try removing the state, sector, or filing status filter to see broader results.
